2027 Maclean's University Rankings: Scholarships, Bursaries, and Student Awards
Canada's top universities, ranked by number of national awards earned by students, and percentage of funding given to financial aid.
One of the biggest factors when choosing a university is the financial aid and tuition support students can potentially access. To help students make smart post-secondary decisions, Maclean's magazine has ranked (most of) Canada's public universities by the number of national awards earned by enrolled students, and the percentage of their operating budget a school spends on scholarships and bursaries for students.
Not all public Canadian universities are included in the Maclean's rankings. Maclean's excludes certain institutions based on various criteria, so if the school you're interested in doesn't appear here, don't fret.
Scholarships and bursaries
These tables show what percentage of each school's operating budget goes towards scholarships and bursaries for students. These scholarships and bursaries come directly from the universities themselves.
(Be aware that these tables don't show the percentage of students who receive a scholarship or bursary! They show the percentage of a school's operating budget devoted to financial aid.)
Large universities
Large universities, as defined by Maclean's magazine, have over 30,000 full-time enrolled students. See the overall rankings for large universities here.
Mid-size universities
Mid-size universities, as defined by Maclean's magazine, have between 10,000 and 30,000 full-time enrolled students. See the overall rankings for mid-size universities here.
Small universities
Small universities, as defined by Maclean's magazine, have under 10,000 full-time enrolled students. See the overall rankings for small universities here.
Student awards per 1,000 students
These tables show how many student awards are claimed by students at Canadian universities, per 1,000 students. These student awards, in contrast to scholarships and bursaries above, are focused on national academic awards, which includes prestigious awards from organizations and agencies beyond each school — like Rhodes Scholarships, Fulbrights, and others.

Remember, these rankings do not include every public university in Canada! If the school you're interested in doesn't appear, don't worry. They may still offer scholarships and bursaries, and their students may still compete for national awards. Use these lists as a starting point to help you decide — not the be-all, end-all of your university search!
