We have advice to help you make the best of your summer!

The end of another semester is upon us! That could mean summer classes, travel, or summer jobs. If you’re applying for the latter, you’re in luck – we have advice to help you make the best of your summer, professionally speaking.

Paid Employment
A great first stop in your post-secondary summer job hung is the UNBC Career Centre. Under the job postings drop-down menu there is a list of currently available employment positions in Prince George, surrounding area, and beyond (in British Columbia). In this same drop-down menu is a link for external positions, where prospective employees (you) may find a great list of reputable job banks and internship opportunities.

Co-Operative Education
The UNBC Career Centre also provides students with co-operative education opportunities. The co-op program combines learning in the classroom with learning on the job, allowing students to put their academic knowledge into action through relevant work experience of four or eight month terms. Co-op work almost always places students into employment positions in their direct area of academic interest, which not only gives you a great chance to “test drive” your program of study, but also fantastic experience for your resume and invaluable references from employers.

Do not discount the value of volunteer work. While you may not be making a wage, you will be gaining incredibly valuable experience that can be applied to your future career, your community, and the enrichment of your life in general. Volunteer Prince George has been serving the Prince George area since 1991, helping volunteers find opportunities with fitting community organizations, and offering training workshops.

Resumes, Cover Letters, and Interview Techniques (…oh my!)
Whether you’re looking for an entire resume and cover letter overhaul, or just to brush it up a little bit, the UNBC Career Centre can help! They offer resume and cover letter writing help, job search strategies, and even tips for interview preparation. For more information, please see:
