Creativity is at the Heart of Everything We Do at Sheridan

Creative thinking and ideation is an important part of every program at Sheridan, from health care to AI computing.

At Sheridan in Ontario's Greater Toronto Area, creativity powers everything we do. It goes beyond arts and design, too: Sheridan programs in areas like coding, nursing, and EMT training encourage creative thinking every day.

Sheridan is internationally renowned in animation, design, and film, with alumni who have worked at studios like Disney, Pixar, and Ubisoft. One of our graduates even co-directed KPop Demon Hunters!

Creativity is a huge part of what makes Sheridan special. But here's a tip many students don't realize: creativity is a skill — you can learn and practice it!

No matter what program you take at Sheridan, you'll get the chance to flex your creative muscles using industry-standard devices and tech — from staples like Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft 365 to specialized tools for specific fields, like Logic Pro and Blender.

For over 25 years, Mac has supported Sheridan in teaching and training new generations of creative leaders. Sheridan's Mac Tech Team manages 1,400 Mac devices across Sheridan's three campuses, ensuring students can access the tools they need to make an impact. As a Sheridan student, you'll spend more time ideating and creating.

Advanced computing and applied AI

MacBook Air is the recommended device for students in Sheridan's Mobile Computing program, where learners use Visual Studio Code to build skills in popular programming languages like Python and C#, developing for multiple operating systems and cloud integrations.

Sheridan's co-op and internship placements opportunities can also give eligible students experience applying their skills in professional environments.

"When students see their work running on a real device, something changes," says Magdin Stoica of Sheridan's Faculty of Applied Science and Technology. "It stops feeling like an assignment and starts feeling like a product someone could actually use."

At Sheridan's Centre for Applied AI, students work closely with industry and community leaders by identifying their needs, developing prototypes, and presenting solutions to the people they're designed to serve. Creative thinking and new technologies go hand-in-hand.

Building clinical expertise through simulation

Creative thinking is just as important in health care, too. Nursing and EMT students train their decision-making skills using iPads and Laerdal patient monitors, while students in Gerontology and Personal Support Worker programs practice with AI-powered virtual patients using Apple Vision Pro headsets.

These simulations let students interact with virtual patients whose conditions, personalities, and needs can change from one scenario to the next. Students can safely practice clinical judgment, communication, and decision-making before facing consequential situations in the real world.

"Technology isn't replacing human care. It's helping students prepare for it," says Dr. Vicki Mowat, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies.
