$100,000 Energy Creates Scholarship Contest Is Open Now!
Watch a documentary, pass a quiz, and get creative for your shot at one of five huge Energy Creates scholarships!
Have you heard? Energy Creates, the year's biggest scholarship contest, is open now. Five awards of valued at up to $100,000 EACH are open to Canadian youth, between 15 and 25 years old, to support post-secondary studies.
Last year, Energy Creates supported 5 wonderful students from across Canada. You can explore their stories on the Energy Creates website.
What is Energy Creates?
Energy Creates is Canada's nationwide challenge for youth to learn about energy poverty: a condition affecting over a billion people across more than 150 countries who live without reliable access to heat, power, or light.
Last year was a huge success, with five winners from across Canada, so this year, Energy Creates is doing it again!
Learn about our country, our planet, and yourself! Plus, you could receive a scholarship valued at up to $100,000 for your efforts. This could cover your full tuition, mandatory fees, and more!
You have until February 15, 2026 to complete your application — but why wait?
Who is eligible for an Energy Creates scholarship?
The Energy Creates scholarships are open to Canadian students between 15 and 25 years old. No matter your field of study, or what school you're attending, if you're a student between 15 and 25, you can get involved! (Check out the full terms online.)
How do I apply for an Energy Creates scholarship?
This scholarship contest is unique. It's a four-step process — and one of these steps is watching a documentary!
Step 1: Set up your Energy Creates account
Like almost any scholarship program, you'll need to create an account. This is simple and will only take you a few moments.
Step 2: Watch the new documentary "Help is on the Way" by director Mathew Embry
Once you're logged in, you'll have the chance to watch "Help is on the Way," the newest documentary from director Mathew Embry. It's a feature-length film, so make sure you set aside approximately 100 minutes to watch the whole thing!
It's a good idea to take notes as you watch, or even give it another look to ensure you gathered all the info you need for the upcoming steps.
Step 3: Pass a quiz on what you've learned
Now that you've learned about energy poverty in places like Peru, Ukraine, and even Canada, it's time to take a quiz. The notes you took while watching the documentary can help!
You'll find the questions in the Energy Creates portal. Don't worry if you're not the test-taking type, though. There's a downloadable study guide you can access (PDF) that will help you digest the key points you'll need to know to pass the quiz.
The 25-question quiz is meant to help you absorb the things you've learned — your score's not used to determine if you win a scholarship. You can take the quiz as many times as needed to pass.
Step 4: Get creative
Here's where things get fun. We want to hear from you about the importance of the Canadian energy sector, and how Canada can play a role in reducing energy poverty at home and around the world. You'll submit an "artist's statement" of up to 500 words, along with a title for your project.
Here are a few starting points to consider:
Get creative with it! Bring your personality to the table! Sure, you could write an essay, but you could also produce a video, record a song, paint a picture, create a sculpture, pen a short story, take a photograph... Let your creativity run wild!
For applicants who want a bit more structure, here are some example submissions, but you're more than welcome to go beyond this list!
- Short film
- Painting, drawing, photograph, design, sculpture, or other work of visual art
- Dance performance
- Musical performance
- Short story, or other fictional or non-fictional writing
Even things like food plating, fashion design, vehicle painting, dance — all kinds of artistic expression are welcome! VR, comics, cosplay, you name it! The only limit is your imagination.
Once you upload your work to the Energy Creates portal (or share a link to your work on YouTube, your blog, etc.), your application is complete!
How will my submission be assessed?
Energy Creates has a diverse team to review all applications, including people from across the professional spectrum:
- artists
- scientists
- writers
- engineers
- businesspeople
- and more
The five top entries will each receive a scholarship prize valued at up to $100,000 for your post-secondary education!
If you're not heading to college or university next year, no worries. You can still win a scholarship as long as you're between 15 and 25, and have plans for post-secondary by 2028.
So, why wait? Get energized and apply today! Watch the doc, pass the quiz, and get creative. Be sure to apply before the deadline on February 15, 2026. We can't wait to see the unique, artistic works you'll create!
