 Entrance Scholarships for Canadians at the University of Guelph-Humber

One of the biggest questions students everywhere ask themselves is “how will I pay for school?” At the University of Guelph-Humber, we understand that money matters, and for a student population of 4,900, we allocate up to $6.8 million annually for scholarships, awards, and bursaries.

Scholarships, awards, and bursaries are a great way to help alleviate your financial stress. Discover what kinds of funding are available for you at Guelph-Humber as a Canadian entering your first year of university:

Automatic entrance scholarships

As a student about to enter your first year of university, you’re busy with course selection, buying your textbooks, moving into residence, and much more. That’s why automatic entrance scholarships are great — they require no extra effort on your part. These awards are based on your final high school grades. So, if you meet the criteria, then you’ll be awarded the scholarship automatically!

Renewable Entrance Scholarship

As you enter your first year of studies at the University of Guelph-Humber, you’ll have the opportunity to earn a scholarship based entirely on your final admission average with the Renewable Entrance Scholarship:

95.0% + $5,000
90.0% - 94.9% $4,000
85.0% - 89.9% $3,000
80.0% - 84.9% $2,000
75.0% - 79.9% $1,000

To be eligible for the award, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, entering your first year of post-secondary studies (for the first time), and enrolled full-time. The award amount you’ll receive is based on your final admission average.

Vice-Provost Entrance Scholarship

Award amount: $20,000 ($5,000 x 4 years)

Number of awards available: 7 (one per full-time program)

The Vice-Provost Entrance Scholarship recognizes the student with the highest final admissions average in their program cohort. To be eligible for this award, you’ll need to be entering your first year of a full-time program with the highest final admission average in your program. Each recipient will receive $5,000 per year, for four years of study, if you maintain an 80% average each year.

Specialist High Skills Major Entrance Award

Award amount: $1,000

The Specialist High Skills Major Entrance Award is for anyone who has an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum average of 80% and has completed a specialist high skills major in:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Business
  • Health & Wellness
  • Information & Communications Technology
  • Justice, Community Safety & Emergency Services
  • Non-profit
  • Sports

Application-based scholarships

The next few scholarships and bursaries are application-based awards, meaning if you want a shot at earning this money, you’ll need to apply to these scholarships directly.

Founders’ Academic Merit Scholarship

Award amount: $36,000 ($9,000 x 4 years)

Number of awards available: 10

The Founders’ Academic Merit Scholarship recognizes a student’s academic achievement, leadership, and extracurricular activities. To be eligible for this award, you’ll need to be entering your first year of full-time studies with a minimum admission average of 90%. Each recipient will receive $9,000 per year, for four years of study, if you maintain an 80% average each year.

Registrar’s Need-Based Entrance Bursary

Award amount: $2,000

The Registrar’s Need-Based Entrance Bursary is intended for students who demonstrate financial need. To be eligible for the bursary, you’ll need to have applied to the University of Guelph-Humber and must be entering your post-secondary studies for the first time. With this bursary, you cannot also hold the Diversity Entrance Bursary.

Diversity Entrance Bursary

Award amount: $2,000

The Diversity Entrance Bursary is intended for Black, Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis), or racialized students who demonstrate financial need, and have applied to the University of Guelph-Humber. With this bursary, you cannot also hold the Registrar’s Need-Based Entrance Bursary.


Keep in mind that some scholarships and bursaries cannot be stacked, and you may have to choose one or the other. Make sure you check the requirements of each scholarship to learn more.
