Making a Little Go a Long Way
Simple ways to save and track expenses.
You're on your way to the start of something new. With that comes more independence and more freedom. Freedom to choose how you use your time, your energy and your money. The year ahead could be full of either pitfalls or successes, or more likely, a bit of both.
Apps for Budgeting
In our nearly cashless society, it's become the norm to use an app to pay for things like your meal, buying clothes and other everyday needs. But beware, these expenses can quickly add up without you knowing it. Your parent's generation used cash and could readily see when their wallet was empty. It's easy to overdraw your account when spending goes unchecked. Keep track of your spending by using budgeting apps like Mint to ensure you stay within your limits.
Simple Ways to Save
Unless you have a meal plan on campus, try cutting back on buying meals or that morning coffee. It's amazing how much you can save in just a week by making your own meals and coffee or tea before leaving home. Sometimes this can make for healthier options rather than caving into junk food cravings that hit in the middle of a study session.
Finding the Best Deals
This doesn't mean you'll never indulge in a treat or be able to spend on downtime activities. Most campuses, like Tyndale, are located in areas where there are plenty of inexpensive options to enjoy a meal or a night out. It's good to take some time to unwind when you can. You can even check ahead to make sure everything's within your price range. Most of your fellow students are likely in the same position, so stay connected with your peers to capitalize on sales and deals that suit your needs.
We're Here to Help!
Whether you live on or off campus, with family, have a part-time or even full-time job, finances are often challenging for students these days. With recent changes to OSAP, things can be even more difficult. Don't let that get you down. Before your bank account hits zero, take a look at your finances and be sure to ask for help when you need it. At Tyndale, the Financial Aid Department is always ready to discuss your financial needs and try to find ways to help. There are plenty of scholarships and bursaries available, so don't miss out on any extra bits of funding.
