New for 2025: Sheridan Offers 3 Programs in Diagnostic Imaging Technology
Start your studies this September in healthcare fields like MRI, ultrasound, or X-ray / CT scanning.
Sheridan is thrilled to share three new specializations in Diagnostic Imaging Technology for students who want to start their healthcare studies this September.
Medical imaging is a key part of modern healthcare, and it makes for an excellent career supporting patients. Sheridan's working to improve medical care in Ontario and across Canada, with a dozen programs in applied health, including the new Diagnostic Imaging program.
What is Diagnostic Imaging Technology?
Diagnostic Imaging Technologists (DITs) work in medical settings, like hospitals and clinics, working closely with patients at all stages of care. DITs perform scans, like ultrasounds or x-rays, to provide doctors with critical information. DITs engage directly with patients and medical staff alike.
If you're a grade 12 grad looking for a career in healthcare, or you've already got some medical training in Canada or abroad, and you're looking to upskill, this program may be a great choice for you.
What makes Sheridan's Diagnostic Imaging Technology program unique?
Sheridan's new Diagnostic Imaging Technology splits into three streams with a common first year. In first year, you'll develop foundational skills in MRI, ultrasound sonography, and x-ray / CT scans. In second and third year, you'll specialize in one of three streams:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Ultrasound
- X-ray / CT
After graduation, you can acquire a second specialization from this list in just one academic year by completing seven additional courses!
For international students interested in working in Canada after graduation, the Diagnostic Imaging Technologist program is PGWP-eligible.
Getting real-world experience with local healthcare providers
At Sheridan, co-operative education is paramount.
Sheridan's Diagnostic Imaging Technologist program puts you front and centre, developing real-world experience starting in your second year. Sheridan has partnered with Humber River Hospital in northwest Toronto, to offer clinical placements to Sheridan students.
By the time you graduate, you will have completed over 1,300 supervised clinical hours in a real hospital setting! This practical work experience looks great on your resumé.
Earning industry-standard certifications
Accreditation Canada has approved Sheridan's Diagnostic Imaging Technologist program, so you can be sure the program will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to practice across Canada. Both the MRI and X-ray/CT specializations teach everything you need to know to earn certification through the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, too.
