Springfield College: Humanics in Action
Develop your leadership skills through service for others: that's Humanics in action!
One of the best ways to learn about oneself is by helping others, and service in action is what Springfield College is all about! Springfield College is dedicated to the Humanics philosophy, which "calls for educating students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others."
What is the Humanics philosophy?
Humanics is the age-old Greek ideal of the balanced individual. At Springfield College, we believe, as did the ancient Greeks, that a person's emotional, intellectual, and physical lives are interconnected. The Humanics philosophy calls for the education of the whole person — in spirit, mind, and body — for leadership in service to others. And, we represent this ideology with a triangle. You may notice a couple around campus.
Simply put, it's not all about books around here. It's also about bodies, attitudes, and emotions. So, while preparing for your life of helping others, your education at Springfield College will also provide you with an understanding of how the elements of Humanics work together. It's all about balance.
Humanics in Action at Springfield College
That's why Springfield College developed the Humanics in Action program: to give each member of the campus community the chance to positively impact others. Humanics in Action started as a one-day event in 1998, and has grown to become a major part of the campus experience at Springfield.
Humanics in Action highlights the commitment by Springfield College to year-round community-based service programs. It provides a way to connect students to community-based needs that individuals feel passionate about, while also providing experiential learning opportunities.
Assisting Neighbours & Athletes Serving the Community
Springfield College community members have the chance to participate in service projects that leave an impact in their communities.
The Springfield College Assisting Neighbours Program is where individuals or small groups of students, faculty, and staff members assist a number of our elderly neighbours with their yard maintenance.
Additionally, the Athletes Serving the Community program pairs athletic teams with service opportunities in Springfield, or allows them to create their own projects.
A Celebration of Service
Individuals who complete at least four hours of community service will receive an invitation to the Celebration of Service events and a free Humanics in Action t-shirt once they report their service hours.
