Residence Life At Indiana Tech: A Home Base For Canadian Students

Moving from Canada to the United States for university is exciting, but it can also come with big questions: Where will I live? How do I meet people quickly? What will day-to-day life feel like on campus? At Indiana Tech, Residence Life is designed to make that transition smoother by pairing modern, attractive residence halls with the kind of community that helps you feel connected from the start.

Why living on campus matters

Indiana Tech Residence Life is built around two ideas: proximity and community. When you live on campus, you are close to campus resources, dining, programming, and classrooms, which can make it easier to settle into a new routine. Just as importantly, living in residence puts you in daily contact with friends, other students, mentors, and faculty, creating an environment where you can build relationships and a sense of belonging.

Across Indiana Tech's eight residence halls, students can find opportunities for personal growth, cultural diversity, and leadership. Residence Life is supported by professional staff and student leaders, including Resident Assistants (RAs), who help guide students in community living and academic support. Programming throughout the year is designed to help students develop and make positive choices that support their goals.

Who typically lives on campus

Indiana Tech has a two-year residency requirement. In general, single students below 60 credits usually live on campus, unless they are living with parents or guardians. For many international students, this expectation can be a benefit: it means your first years are structured around a campus living experience that can help you quickly learn the environment, build friendships, and access support.

First-year residence hall options

If you are considering Indiana Tech housing for the first time, a great place to start is by exploring residence hall options. First-year students are generally housed in Pierson Hall or Kalbfleisch Hall, two communities designed to support the transition into university life.

Pierson Hall is Indiana Tech's largest residence hall and a primary home for first-year students. It houses 250 students in suite-style rooms. Suites include a small shared entryway that divides the two sides, with each student assigned to side A or side B. Each side accommodates two students, and each side has a bathroom separated by a shared bathtub/shower. Pierson includes wired connections and wireless access (students authenticate to the Indiana Tech network), a digital cable jack (students provide their own TV), card-access entry, lobbies on each floor with furniture and a big screen television, and free laundry on each wing. The facility is monitored by closed-circuit cameras internally and externally.

Kalbfleisch Hall offers traditional-style housing primarily for first-year students. Built in 2012, it accommodates 98 students in two-person suites. The building is staffed by three resident assistants and also houses a graduate assistant. Both entrances are controlled by card access, and the facility is monitored by closed-circuit television internally and externally. Kalbfleisch also features a two-story lobby with a fireplace, lounge furniture, big screen televisions, student mailboxes, and free laundry. Limited parking is available at the rear of the building with a residential parking permit.

Meal plans made simple

Living on campus also connects you to dining options designed around student schedules. Indiana Tech offers a variety of meal plans and options, and requirements depend on your residence hall and your year on campus. All first-year students are required to purchase the full meal plan, regardless of which building they are assigned.

The full meal plan includes 19 meals served by Dining Services throughout the week, which is enough for one meal during every meal period across the week. It also allows flexibility: you can use up to four meals on any weekday if you missed a meal earlier or know you will miss one later, while still staying within the 19-meal weekly total.

For Canadian students looking for a supportive first-year landing spot, Residence Life at Indiana Tech brings together convenience, structured support, and an easy on-ramp to community.
