Tips for Understanding Your Offer and What It Means If You Haven't Heard Back Yet

All your hard work, late nights, and dedication have brought you to this exciting moment. You've made it this far — congratulations!

Feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness is completely normal. Whether you're eager to start this next chapter or anxious about what's coming, you're not alone.

Understanding your offer and next steps

If you've received an offer, you'll get an email outlining next steps. Your Offer of Admission will be posted on your Waterloo applicant portal, and your Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) account will show the status for each program you applied to.

Many students will receive conditional offers. This means you must meet or maintain certain conditions by a set date. Conditions may include:

  • submitting final transcripts,
  • achieving a specific grade in a required course,
  • maintaining a minimum final average, and
  • submitting English language proficiency requirements.

You can view your offer conditions and personalized next steps through your Waterloo applicant portal, which you should have received an email about when you applied through OUAC.

If you receive an offer, you must accept it by June 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Haven't heard back yet?

That's okay! Waterloo's offers of admission are made between December and mid-May as we receive updated grades from high schools. In fact, many offers are made in May, once second-semester midterm grades have been received.

While you wait to hear back, here are a couple of next steps you can take to know whether Waterloo is the right school for you.

Take a tour

If you haven't visited campus yet, consider taking a tour to experience life at Waterloo firsthand. You'll have the chance to sign up for tours with specific faculties, residences, and University Colleges.

Attend a Waterloo open house or event

Our next March Open House will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026. This is a great way to visit campus and learn more about Waterloo. There will be information sessions, information fairs, and other activities so you can come with all your questions!

This can also be a great event to receive multiple tours on the same day, as all residences and faculties provide tours during the event!

Do some more research
