At the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), students have the flexibility to shape their academic journey through unique joint majors and double majors. What is a joint major?

A joint major at UNBC is a single degree program that combines two disciplines into one academic plan. This type of program is ideal for students interested in the intersection of two fields, such as a joint major in Computer Science and Mathematics—where the combined knowledge creates a more interdisciplinary approach. Joint majors often require fewer total credits than double majors, making them more manageable within the standard four-year timeline.

In contrast, a double major involves completing the full set of major requirements for two separate disciplines.
