CapU Orientation: Building Community from Day One
Capilano University's got tons of fun and exciting activities to help you connect with your new classmates.
Whether you're starting student life at Capilano University now or in the near future, our orientation program can help you feel more prepared, connected and confident as you start your journey with us. You'll be introduced to our North Shore campus, welcomed into our community and equipped with the tools to succeed as a student.
Kate Phifer, who has organized and delivered our Orientation events as Capilano University's Student Success Facilitator since 2022, shared her amazement at how Orientation can build connections and community among first-year students, explaining, "You're not just learning about services—you're meeting real people, from student leaders to staff, who want to support you."
What to expect at orientation
Running in the weeks leading up to and immediately after our fall semesters, orientation activities help you and future students prepare for your courses, connect you with faculty, peers and resources, and build the skill set to succeed. Our New Student Orientation offers an overview of campus culture and essential resources through interactive activities led by CapU staff and student leaders. Events, including Welcome Wednesdays, provide skill-building workshops, opportunities to meet faculty, make friends, get your student card and explore our Student Services.
CapU Street Party
One of the highlights of Orientation is the CapU Street Party—our biggest event of the year. This lively celebration invites new students to connect with their programs, enjoy a free lunch, pick up CapU swag and explore spaces like the Centre for Sport and Wellness, the Well-Being Zone, the Indigenous craft market, the Discovery Fair and more.
Phifer says, "The campus will be buzzing with energy—from the arcade truck and free BBQ to the CapU Rec Zone, music therapy workshop, Dunk the Dean and so much more! It's the perfect chance to relax, have fun and meet other students." She adds that "the fun won't stop there," explaining that "throughout the week, there'll be awesome events designed to help you connect with other students and start building your network."
