"I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, but once I had the opportunity to shadow nurses, I knew I'd found my fit." - Hanna, 3rd Year Nursing Student

Community service learning

The Community Service Learning (CSL) program is designed to provide U of A students with the opportunity to give back to the community in which they live and learn. You will bring your time, talents, and valued contributions to local organizations as a direct part of your studies.

CSL offers University of Alberta students the chance to work and make a difference with a local community group, while reflecting and putting their experiences in context within a university course. These partnerships provide opportunities to gain valuable experience, contribute meaningfully, and increase awareness of the social and political life of their community.

Campus maker spaces

The U of A has maker spaces across its campuses that allow doers to do, tinkers to tink, and creators to create. These spaces give students access to resources and environments that accelerate studies and bring ideas to life.

  • eHub: The U of A entrepreneurship centre can help you launch your ideas and bring them to market
  • Student Innovation Centre: This space is modeled after business incubators and startup offices aimed to encourage creativity and innovation.
  • Elko Engineering Garage: 6,000 sq. ft. makerspace for student projects with equipment like 3D printers, woodworking tools, and more.
  • Printmaking Studio: Practice printmaking techniques including silkscreen and letterpress in this well equipped studio.
  • Nursing Simulation Centre: 14,068 sq. ft. state-of-the-art space where nursing students can engage in immersive learning using simulated teaching-learning tools.
  • The Shack: A science hardware makerspace where students, staff, and faculty can bring their ideas to life using 3D printers, laser cutters, electronics, and more.
