Written for Capilano University by Isaiah Ohori, Student Recruitment Ambassador, former Blues Men's Volleyball Athlete
If you want to continue playing your sport while pursuing an education, CapU is the place for you!
The Capilano University Blues compete in Men's and Women's Soccer, Volleyball, and Basketball. In the Blues program, students improve their skills on and off the pitch and court with the support of our outstanding community.
Reach out to coaches early
If you are determined to play your sport at the next level, reaching out to CapU Blues coaches in advance is a great way to show your motivation to succeed in sports and the classroom.
A good time to connect is at the beginning of your grade 12 year, or at the end of grade 11. Reaching out at this time will give you the opportunity to showcase your skills to the coaching staff at games or tournaments.
Make sure to apply for your program
Sometimes, you can be recruited as a Blues athlete before enrolling at CapU. You might be thrilled, but remember, you're a student-athlete, so your studies are just as important as your spot on the Blues.
This means you should apply for your desired program right away. The best way to get started on this is to book an appointment with one of our fantastic student recruitment advisors!
Take advantage of CapU's entrance awards and scholarships
If you do well in school while being a student-athlete, you have a better chance of receiving scholarships. (Many scholarships seek students who take part in extra-curricular activities, and are engaged in their school community. Other awards are specifically for student athletes!)
Additionally, CapU has entrance awards you can apply for, including the CapX scholarship, which funds an entire four-year bachelor's degree.
Past and present Blues athletes have been awarded this scholarship, so don't miss your chance to apply for CapU scholarships, awards, and bursaries.
Why you should take part in student athletics
Not sure if university sports are for you? Here are a few classic reasons to get involved:
- Community building: Taking part in sports is a great way to feel like you're part of a unique, tight-knit community
- Personal and athletic development: You'll build your athletic skills, of course, as well as general life skills, like communication and teamwork
- Health and wellness perks: Exercise is good for mind, body, and spirit, and so is good company!
Want to make the most of your university experience? Consider joining a team. At Capilano University, that means the Blues! We hope to see you on the field, or court, soon!
