How to Make Sense of Your Admissions Offer

Whether you're waiting to hear back about your application, or you're still trying to find the perfect fit, this moment is a big milestone in your life. With countless possibilities ahead, we're here to guide you through each step of the admissions process — from understanding key terms and deadlines, to accepting your offer, this guide will answer your top questions and help you feel confident about your decision.

"I've got an offer — what's next?"

The earlier you accept your offer, the more prepared you'll be for September. Here's how to accept your offer through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC):

  • 1. Log in to your OUAC account.
  • 2. Navigate to the "My Offers" section.
  • 3. Click the eye icon on the offer tile to view details.
  • 4. Select the offer you want to accept.
  • 5. Click "Accept" to confirm.
  • 6. Finalize by clicking "I'm ready to submit my response/changes."
  • 7. Review your response, application information, and agree to the Applicant's Declaration.
  • 8. Receive a confirmation email with a summary and a confirmation number. Keep this email for your records.

"I got a conditional offer — what is that?"

If you have courses in progress or haven't graduated yet, your offer will likely be considered a conditional offer. While finishing your high school diploma, be sure to meet the specified requirements of your conditional offer by the date provided by your university. Unconditional offers are granted when you've already met all admission requirements.

"What is an alternate offer and why did I get one?"

If you aren't eligible for admission into the program that you applied to, the university might offer you admission to an alternate program for which you qualify. If you plan on upgrading your courses to satisfy the conditions of your offer, you can consider attending summer school. Make sure to let your school of interest know so they can watch for your updated grades.

"I'm still waiting! When will I hear back?"

If you haven't received a decision yet, don't panic! Admissions decisions are typically made within three to four weeks after the university receives your complete application. Offers are sent on an ongoing basis from December to May, so there's still time.

Accepting your university offer marks the start of an incredible journey. Every step — whether it's meeting conditions, securing housing, or preparing for classes — brings you closer to the experience of a lifetime. Stay curious, connected, and confident as you embark on this new golden chapter of your life.
