Your Pathway to Post-Secondary Education
How to make the most of high school while preparing for your future.
High school is one of many things in life that can fly past you, in the blink of an eye. One minute you’re starting out at a new school and environment, and before you know it, you’re in your final year weighing your options to apply to college or university. It’s important to make the most of your high school experience and develop great memories that you can look back on, before you embark upon your next chapter in post-secondary studies.
Get involved!
Every high school has many different opportunities for you to get involved in, both in school, and in your community. No matter what your hobbies or interests are, you’ll find a way to get involved in something that is meaningful to you.
Here are some ways that you can get involved throughout your high school career:
- Try out for a sports team.
- Join clubs that interest you, or start your own.
- Get involved with student leadership opportunities, like student council.
- Attend a variety of school events to show school spirit (i.e., home games for sports teams, school dances, fundraisers, and more).
- Volunteer in your community.
Stay connected!
Something else to be mindful of, is staying connected. This means that you’ll want to connect with the right people to make sure that you’re achieving your goals, and that you’ve set yourself up for success in the future.
Connect with your teachers to ensure that you’re understanding the content being taught, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. You’ll also want to connect with your guidance counsellor to explore post-secondary options that align with your interests and future career path. All careers have different requirements and paths to obtain them, so make sure that you stay connected and take the right courses to get there!
The possibilities are endless for your future, but at the end of the day, it’s you who decides the path you’ll take. Enjoy your high school experience while you can, and most importantly — have fun!
