University of Hertfordshire Partners with the Featured Artists’ Coalition to Boost Young Creatives

The University of Hertfordshire has partnered with the Featured Artists' Coalition (FAC) to give students the chance to work with some of Britain’s most exciting musicians.

The FAC is a trade body representing artists and their interests at all stages of their careers, from fledgling acts to major headliners. It boasts top names among its ambassadors including Dave Rowntree (Blur), Joff Odie (Wolf Alice), Imogen Heap, and Rina Sawayama — to name just a few.

What this partnership provides

The new 'Propeller Sessions' will offer Creative Arts students the opportunity to use their skills to directly contribute to the music industry, providing emerging artists with professional quality live recordings, music videos, photoshoots and more.

FAC members will be able capture free multi-camera videos and live sound recordings at Herts’ state-of-the-art studios. Bands will play in a live setting and can have up to five tracks recorded supported by University sound engineers. Those who take part will also have access to recording and mastering facilities, as well as live music video production for pre-recorded tracks, photography, graphic design, social media, technology-based research, and development.

All this material is then free for artists to use to promote their singles, albums, gigs, and tours, supporting the next generation of musicians and creatives behind the scenes. This is another example of Herts’ ongoing approach of working directly with the creative industry, providing the skills needed by employers and supporting musicians along the way.

Students will work with the best new music in the UK

Herts is globally renowned for its Music, Film & Television degree courses. Its state-of-the art facilities include a world-class flagship recording studio that gives students access to industry-standard equipment and invaluable hands-on experience.

Dean of the School of Creative Arts, Dr Stephen Partridge, said: "The FAC partnership provides regular opportunities for our students to work with the best new music in the UK, across all genres. Activities include music production and live sound, filming, editing and postproduction, graphic design, production design, social media promotion, and marketing, with great experiences to embellish our graduates’ CVs and showreels.”
