 Marshall University Adds Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Are you interested in becoming a pharmacist, doing research, or advancing medicine? If so, then Marshall University’s School of Pharmacy could be the right place for you! The Marshall University School of Pharmacy is now offering a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (B.S.P.S.)!

Prepare for your career with Marshall’s B.S.P.S

The new undergraduate program will prepare students for entry-level positions in industrial, academic, or research environments and continued pursuit of advanced degrees in medicine, pharmacy, or research.

Targeted industries requiring bachelor’s degree-level pharmaceutical sciences skills include pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, food and beverage manufacturing, biomedical and bioscience, testing laboratories, and technical consulting services,” said Dr. Eric Blough, dean of the School of Pharmacy.



Your B.S.P.S could lead to more!

Marshall’s B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences is also offered as part of accelerated dual degree programs that result in a B.S. / Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or B.S. / master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences.

“This new academic program is a fast track to becoming a pharmacist,” said Blough. “The fourth year of the B.S. program overlaps with the first year of the Pharm.D. program, which enables students to graduate with a Pharm.D. in seven years rather than the traditional eight years.”

  • BSPS 333 Pharmacology — explore the mechanisms of action, physiological effects, and the rational basis for the use of therapeutics drugs.
  • BSPS 444 Principles of Disease and Drug Action — Principles of Disease and Drug Action: Learn about the pathophysiology of common diseases and the therapeutical principles of their treatment.
  • BSPS 471 Capstone — work on a research project with a faculty member or complete an internship in the pharmaceutical sciences industry.
