Financing your degree is a team effort and at Mount Allison University, we’re here to help. We know that financial aid is an important factor for you when choosing your university, and we’re here to make this process as simple as possible for you. We provide over $5 million in scholarships, bursaries, and awards each year, and some of that can be yours! We want to help remove financial barriers that may keep you from taking this important step in your education.

At Mount Allison, we provide support through scholarships, bursaries, awards, and on-campus employment. Discover how you can finance your degree:

Scholarships and awards for first-year students

We want to recognize your academic achievements and personal accomplishments. There are two ways that we do this: entrance scholarships and major scholarships. We’ve made applying for scholarships easy! You’ll apply for scholarships at the same time as you apply for admission (no later than March 1).

Entrance scholarships

Our entrance scholarships range from $4,000 to $20,000 ($1,000 to $5,000 a year), and all students entering their first year of studies at Mount Allison will be automatically considered for these awards. So, when you submit your application for admission and scholarships, you’ll be eligible for consideration for all entrance scholarships.

Entrance scholarships are awarded to entering students who have an admission average of 80% or above, and who demonstrate:

  • extracurricular involvement
  • leadership experience
  • community service
  • work/internship experience
  • academic achievement

Don’t worry if this doesn’t sound like you. We’ve got awards too, so keep scrolling!

Major scholarships

Our major scholarships offer some of our highest valued awards. Just like the entrance scholarships, your application for admission and scholarships will make you eligible to be considered for these awards — as long as you submit your application before March 1. Some major scholarships require an additional application or supplemental information, but each award will tell you what else you need to do to apply. Check out an example of a major scholarship that you could receive:

Marjorie Young Bell Scholarship

Value: $56,000

Number of awards: 6

You could receive this award if you’ve demonstrated a strong academic ability, leadership capability, good citizenship, participated in volunteer work, extracurricular activities, and have work experience. You’ll earn $12,000 per year, plus a paid $8,000 guaranteed internship. You’ll need to submit three reference letters and an essay. The question for the essay will be emailed to you once your application for admission is submitted.

Major awards

Now that you’ve seen what a major scholarship could look like, check out our major awards. These awards are for students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, community involvement, and/or financial need. This is a more flexible program as awards can be offered to you even if you may not meet the full criteria for scholarships and/or bursaries. Here’s an example of a major award you could earn:

Top Student Scholar Award

Value: $2,000

Number of awards: 14

This award is available for top academic students from across Canada and internationally. One award is distributed to one high school student from each province and territory, and one international student who has earned the highest grade 12 midterm admissions average.

Mount Allison bursaries

Our bursaries are based on financial need. Once you’ve been offered admission to Mount Allison, then you can apply for bursaries in one easy application. With this application, you’ll be considered for two types of bursaries:

Entrance bursaries

Our entrance bursaries range from $1,500 to $3,000, and are available for all students entering their first year who demonstrate financial need and are eligible for government student loans.

Major bursaries

Our major bursaries offer some of our top valued financial aid. The eligibility for these bursaries varies from financial need, area of study, location, and more. Check out one of the major bursaries you could receive:

Joyce Foundation Purdy Crawford Bursary

Value: $20,000 ($5,000 per year)

Number of awards: 12

If you’re a student from New Brunswick and demonstrate financial need, then you could receive this bursary! But don’t worry if you’re not from New Brunswick — preference is given to students from New Brunswick, then Atlantic Canada, and then to Canadian students more broadly.

So, as you work on your application, here are some insider tips on what your admissions counsellor is looking for in your scholarship application:
