An Introduction to York University

York University offers an inclusive, diverse campus community which will help you access multiple opportunities and support you in pursuing your academic and career goals. In addition to this, below are a few reasons why York University may be the best fit for your academic journey:

Academic excellence and flexibility

At York, you can choose a unique degree path from over 200 programs. Dedicated to innovation and experiential learning, York students learn from established professors across all disciplines through research centres and institutes that strive to create a better future through research.

Are you unsure about what type of degree or program to choose? York offers you with the opportunity to pursue two majors, whether through a double major or a major and a minor, in unrelated areas of interest across different Faculties. This provides you with the flexibility to customize your undergraduate degrees to achieve your career goals, while exploring other areas of interest.

A career-focused education

At York, you can explore paid internships, co-ops, international exchange, volunteering, work/study opportunities, online workshops, networking events and more. If you're seeking hands-on experience, York's experiential learning opportunities will help you develop practical skills and build a professional network needed to excel in the workplace anywhere in the world.

To grow your budding career, York's Career Education & Development team offers a host of supports, including providing job postings, hosting career fairs and workshops, offering peer mentorship, advising on job search and networking strategies, organizing alumni networking meets, and much more!

By applying to one of the many student jobs available on campus every year, you will have the opportunity to earn while you learn. Take advantage of York's Work/Study program to develop your professional skills, Research at York (RAY) positions to join research projects or the Leadership, Engagement & Ambassadorship Program (LEAP) to work as an ambassador on campus. There are also opportunities to gain work experience through co-op, internships and fieldwork.

Exciting student life in Canada's biggest city

York's main Keele campus is located just a subway ride away from downtown Toronto, as well as uptown's Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. With two subway stations on campus, as well as a network of buses, GO transit, and light rail transit, you can easily explore the Greater Toronto Area's diverse neighbourhoods, parks, sporting events, and concerts. You can attend your morning lectures, hop onto the subway, hang out in downtown Toronto, and be back on campus for an afternoon tutorial!

Thanks to free shuttle services between our Glendon and Keele campuses, it is easy to travel between both locations. Keele Campus offers a thriving community hub that is home to athletic facilities, studios, labs, residences, green spaces and a mall with a wide range of dining and shopping options.

The Glendon Campus, located in the heart of Toronto, is a unique blend of modern and historic architecture. Our bilingual campus is the Centre of Excellence for French-language and bilingual postsecondary education in southern Ontario, where globally engaged programs and hands-on learning opportunities develop the changemakers of tomorrow.

The new Markham campus, opening in 2024, will be home to academic programs and research revolving around innovation in technology and entrepreneurship. It will be a unique meeting place for students to interact directly with employers, start-up companies, and community partners from across the region.

Even with York University's multiple campuses, our students benefit from a tight knit community through York's college system! As one of the few universities in Canada with this system, all undergraduate students are assigned to a college as their "home base" to study, hang out and create their own York community.

York's 350+ student clubs provide new students with the perfect chance to connect with others with similar interests and meet new friends. Track your campus involvement on your York Co-Curricular Record, which is a great addition to your resumé!
