A guide into adulthood.

Some people might consider getting a college degree "the next step" after finishing high school, and boil the experience down to simply attending lectures until graduation. But college is way more than that, and not everyone with a degree ends up being successful. This is the time to build yourself, for many reasons:

To develop academic knowledge

This is like the tip of the iceberg, the part that most of us are able to see, the part that everyone who attends college experiences.

To choose who you want to become

If you already know, that's great, but if you don't, take as long as you need, because rushing into this decision might lead you astray in the long run. It's best to experiment with internships and employment before signing up for a career you're not sure of.

To have a glance into adulthood

You will no longer have as much guidance and supervision as you used to during high school. You are suddenly responsible for yourself and your decisions. This is the time to meet the "adult you" and face the consequences.

To achieve the GPA that could open doors in the future

We all want to graduate with that final score that will get us into the best jobs, internships and scholarships, but it's a common mistake to start caring about your GPA when it's too late. Make sure today's decisions don't sabotage your future.

To start enriching your curriculum

Because, as contradictory as it may seem, having a great GPA is not enough. Our profiles as professionals go way beyond that, so this is the time to get involved and participate in short courses, volunteer programs, trainings, conventions, and internships... Learn about everything your university has to offer and take complete advantage of it.

To activate your critical thinking

Unlike high school, you will start being asked questions that you will not be able to simply find in books. Don't be scared, you are not expected to know all the answers. You are supposed to research, ask, analyze, and come up with assertive answers based on your criteria.

This is the time to build yourself

As overwhelming as it may seem, this is an exciting time to start experiencing life at its utmost, in every possible way. This is the time when you live with yourself enough to get to know you, your personality, your likes and dislikes, your boundaries. This is the time to build long-lasting relationships, to identify the people that you will forever cherish and the people that suddenly have nothing in common with you anymore. College is a lot more than just attending lectures: it's a time to rise, to become active and aware of who you are and to build yourself into the person you want to be.
