Universities, polytechnics, colleges—oh my! When it comes to post-secondary education, you have a wealth of options, but how do you choose? What does it all mean? What is a polytechnic and is it right for you? Let’s find out!

WHAT IS A POLYTECHNIC EDUCATION?
A polytechnic education does just a little bit more. In addition to traditional studies and academics, you’ll develop practical, hands-on, applied skills that you’ll use in your career and beyond. Throughout your education, you’ll have countless opportunities to learn both inside and outside of the classroom through experiences like group project, practicums, guest speakers, community and industry partnerships, field schools, study abroad opportunities, and more.

WHAT CAN I STUDY?
At KPU, we’re proud to offer a range of programs that cover everything from fine arts to biology, nursing to carpentry, philosophy to brewing, graphic design to accounting, and everything in between. Many of our programs offer the option to study full time or part time, and select programs can be completed in just a few months.

WHERE IS KPU?
KPU currently has five campus locations across Metro Vancouver in Surrey, Richmond, Langley, Cloverdale, and Surrey City Centre and we’re proud to be part of such a dynamic and diverse region. As a local, community university we’re well connected with industry partners and local organizations and that means you get opportunities to make real contributions and gain real-world experience in the community you’re a part of.

WHY STAY LOCAL?
Education is a big investment but staying local and a little closer to home can make the cost of post-secondary much easier to manage. Eliminating expenses like moving and living in residence can also mean eliminating extra stress. With so much exciting change already going on when you start university, opting to stay in a community you’re familiar with can make the transition a little easier. Choosing a local university like KPU provides you more opportunities to visit the campus in person or drop in and meet with an advisor before you begin your studies. By the time classes start, you’ll feel right at home here.
