There is no doubt about it, higher education is expensive. However, getting a college or university credential is also more valuable than ever, and undoubtedly pays off in the future. But how can students manage the short term financial burden while still being successful in their educational pursuits?

Earning scholarships and awards is one of the best ways to help finance your education so you can focus on achieving your goals. We caught up with three of our first year Circle of Scholar award winners to talk about the benefits of receiving this scholarship.

Cassidy Williams, a science student from Kelowna, BC said that receiving the award will help her with her future goal of attending medical school. She said ”the scholarship money I received will pay off in the coming years as I will have more money saved when the costs of my schooling become more expensive and demanding.”

Jessica Gaudet, a kinesiology student from Prince Albert, SK said that the Circle of Scholars award helped her to reach her goals. She also added“this has taken away some of the stress that comes with university, which has allowed me to focus on my studies rather than finances.”

Ashlyn Kirk, a science student from Hamiota, MB revealed that receiving the award gave her “confidence and motivation”. She said that “it really validated for me that hard work pays off and motivated me to keep putting my best foot forward not just academically but in everything I do.” She also added that it allows her to focus on her school work rather than on the financial pressure on her family. She said “I am very honoured to have received this award and for all the doors it has opened for me!”
