Open houses have so much to offer. Attending an open house gives you an opportunity to get answers to your questions, learn about the university, and find out what’s right for you. If you don’t know which school to attend, or just want to get an idea of what to expect from university, attend an open house!

Open houses are often busy events, and with so much going on it can be tough to figure out how to spend your time. Don’t stress, we’ve got you covered! Here are some of our top tips to help you make the most of your open house experiences.

Plan your day
To make the most of your time at an open house make sure you plan ahead! Universities often have a guide available that outlines everything offered at the open house. Take note of the times and places for different sessions and try to attend ones that are close together in time and location, so that you save yourself from trekking across campus between each one.

Arrive early
Open house events go by fast. Show up early so you can see and do everything on your list and really make the most out of your time.

Talk to students
Take advantage of this day! Often there are many student volunteers at open house events. If you’re unsure about a program, want to learn more about what you can do outside of your studies, or want to know where the best places to get food are, ask those who know best -- students!

Ask questions
Open houses are designed to offer information to students. Don’t hold back! Ask all the questions you have! A good idea to help make sure you don’t forget to ask any of your questions is to write them all down before attending the open house. Not sure what types of questions to ask? Check out our questions to ask at a university fair article to help you get started thinking of some questions.

Try the food
University life often means eating out, or at least eating on campus. Whether it’s getting lunch between classes, or grabbing a quick study snack, you’re bound to end up eating on campus eventually. Open houses can be a great opportunity to try out some of the food options available on campus and find your favourite place!

These are some of our key tips to make the most of your open house visits. We hope they help you out and you have a great time visiting universities!
