Gaining valuable work experience as a student to prepare for your career.

Many of you will be finishing another year of school shortly, looking forward to the summer break ahead of you. You’ll likely spend this time working before heading off to university in the fall. Though it may feel too early to begin considering career options for when you complete your degree, it isn’t necessarily.

Real world work experience is what employers seek, and it can often be difficult to gain the sought-after level of experience as a student. Fortunately, Brock offers students several different options to help build your resume while you study. One of the best options for this is to take advantage of Brock’s diverse range of co-op programs.

With more than 40 programs to choose from, you’ll be able to complete your degree, while also earning a minimum of 12 months of relevant work experience. You’ll alternate between academic semesters of study with work placements beginning in your third year, and as a bonus, most opportunities are paid. If you haven’t applied directly to a program that offers a co-op option, you can apply to join a co-op stream (if available) after completing your first year of study.

In addition, you can also develop your skills via Experiential Education at Brock. You’ll engage in first-hand experiences outside of the classroom thanks to over 100+ service-learning community partnerships and over 22 countries that offer experiential field courses. All of these opportunities will help you to develop skills that employers actively seek.

Planning for your career is equally important, which is why we offer all students access to our CareerZone Resource Centre. Here, you can meet with a career consultant to explore different paths and options available to you, as well as attend workshops and events to network and improve your resume, and also apply for on-campus jobs.

Gaining work experience as a student will benefit not only your resume, but also your skills and development as a young professional. At Brock, we’re proud to offer memorable experiences for everyone.
