When enrolling in the college of your dreams, there are a few factors to consider as you make your decision. It’s important to choose a college that has the right education for you, as well as one that fulfills your personal needs and requirements.

Here are a few steps that a student should take when finding the right school:

1. Ask yourself how long you want to be in school for: Do you plan on staying in school for two years or four years? Some students prefer to complete a diploma in two years, whereas other students plan on majoring in a degree which takes up to four years. Some schools offer programs that can be completed in a short time period. Here at John Casablancas Institute, we have condensed traditional 2-year diplomas into 1-year programs and we offer programs from six months—FAB, Core Design and Hair Art Design Programs, to a max of year long programs—Fashion, Body Spa and Makeup.

2. Comfort: Find a college that you feel comfortable at. Are you someone that would move across the country to experience new opportunities and meet new people? Or are you someone that wants to live close to home? Do you like large institutions with large classes or smaller classes with lower teacher to student ratios?

3. List the pros and cons: Listing the advantages and disadvantages of your top school choices will make it easier for you to make a decision. Consider what there is to do near the school and if you’re going to be looking for a part-time job, see what opportunities are near the school. Narrow down your choices by taking a tour of the college and talk to professors/advisors. Think of what it will be like going to school day after day and spending hours there.

4. Cost of tuition: Some schools will be expensive than others, however this is not a bad thing. Don’t back away from a school just because it is more expensive—this could just mean that this certain school has more to offer. Make sure there is value to the tuition. Take a step back and think about what schools offer the best opportunities for you and if it gives you a healthy learning environment. Once you’ve figured that out, you’ll be able to choose the best college for you in no time!
