Description:

Though a career in Nursing offers a rich variety of employment opportunities both locally and internationally, it’s not just the job market that makes nursing an excellent career choice. Few other careers offer the opportunity to touch lives, promote health, prevent disease, help people cope with illness, and provide comfort and care on a daily basis. The college collaborates with local hospitals to off er guided internships throughout the program and externships for summer employment.

Special features: State-of-the-art equipment including computerized interactive patient mannequins and fully equipped simulation hospital wards; Direct supervision of students by teachers during clinical experiences in hospitals or clinics; Peer tutoring and teacher-led tutorials to improve study skills and note-taking; French courses geared toward Nursing and health care; Extended Nursing Program option for those who wish to extend the regular 3-year Nursing Program to four years; Possibility of doing a Nursing internship or stage in Malawi, Africa; Many Vanier nursing graduates recruited by Montreal hospitals even before graduating.

Prerequisites:

Admission to the College is on the basis of the Quebec Secondary School Diploma (Diplôme d’études secondaires); or the Quebec Diploma of Vocational Education (Diplôme d’études professionnelles) with Secondary 5 first and second languages as well as Secondary 4 Mathematics; or equivalent scholarity completed outside the province.

Science: Science 558-404 or 402; Physical Science 436 (416 and 430); CEGEP Equivalent Physical Science 982-003-50; Adult Education Equivalent SET/TSE 4061, 4062, 4063 & 4064 or PSC 4010, 4011 and 4012.

Chemistry: Chemistry 551-504; Chemistry 534; CEGEP Equivalent Chemistry 202-001-50; Adult Education Equivalent CHE 5061 & 5062 or CHE 5041, 5042 and 5043 with labs.

Math 564-406 or 565-406 or Math 436 or equivalent and Biology are highly recommended. Applicants with post-secondary education will be evaluated on their overall academic performance and prerequisite standing.
Application Notes : The following course is highly recommended: Math TS/SN 406/426 or equivalent. The competition for entering this program is so high that your chances of being accepted increase significantly if you have this course. A letter of intent must be submitted with the application. Additional Admission Requirements:
    Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Students must test at the English 101 level; English is the language of instruction at Vanier, but when in the clinical setting our Nursing students are expected to be able to communicate with French speaking patients; A letter of intent addressed to “Admissions” must be included with the SRAM application and an interview may be required; Admitted students must submit an immunization record; Students must be registered with the Ordre des Infirmières et Infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) to obtain a student nursing permit. There will be a fee for this.
    Hospitals will ask that all students complete and sign a Criminal Background Verification Form
