Description:

We offer a 3 year program qualifying graduates to write the provincial Registered Nursing exams. We provide theoretical, laboratory and clinical experience in all the major fields of nursing from the newborn to the elderly, within hospitals, clinics and the community. Our state-of-the-art laboratory, small classes and closely supervised clinical experience, beginning the first semester, cumulating in a preceptorship experience in the last semester, prepares you to assume the graduate role with confidence. The preceptorship experience allows the student to assume the beginning graduate role under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse as the student works along side the preceptor. At the completion of preceptorship, our students are often offered jobs.

Upon graduation you will be qualified to enter the workforce in Quebec as a nurse or continue your education for a baccalaureate degree with McGill University or other universities in Quebec.

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

Additional Admission Requirements:
For ENTRY into the Nursing program, students must provide a Medical / Health Certificate and Immunization Record, a completed Medical Certificate and Up-to-date Immunization Record (English / French). Screening for immunity to certain diseases and verifying that your immunizations are up to date is required to ensure that both you and your clients are protected against illness. If you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant during the program of studies, please schedule a meeting with the Program Coordinator to obtain information about the process to follow and the possible outcome.
The Nursing Department requires its students to obtain a Police Record Check for Service with the Vulnerable Population. We require that a search be conducted for criminal convictions, outstanding charges or pardoned sex offenses in the Canadian National Repository of Criminal Records. The College has made special arrangements with the Gatineau Police to offer this service for free to both Quebec and Ontario residents. Request forms will be completed at the College during registration week in August. Please bring two pieces of photo ID ensuring that at least one is showing your current residency address. It is an admission requirement.
N-95 Respiratory Masks testing - the initial free adjustment will be done at Heritage at the beginning of your first term. The testing will be valid for 2 years.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training - This two (2) days mandatory training will be offered at Heritage during registration week. You will be billed a fee for the training. Expect the cost to be about $120.00 but the price could change if deemed necessary by the College's administration.
Current First Aid & CPR certification for the Health Care Worker - The certification is mandatory for access to clinical/practicum. The certificate must be current, having been issued in 2018. Check with your city/community services, private agencies or groups (Red Cross, St-John Ambulance, Heart & Stroke Foundation) and obtain the certification before the beginning of your first term. CPR Recertification is expected yearly.
