Profile

Taylor Seminary is a Christian graduate school, accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), dedicated to the task of developing Christ-minded leaders who will make a difference in the world. The mission of Taylor Seminary is to provide graduate-level theological education for men and women who are committed to obey the Lord in career, church and community. Our primary focus is on training for pastoral and other vocational Christian ministries, with a special focus on spiritual formation and intercultural studies.

Significant scholarships are available to our students, who also benefit from a unique course delivery model that sees every required course offered as 1) semester-long courses, 2) as one-week intensives, and 3) as online courses. Additionally, regular semester courses are offered primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays to save the working student from having to travel to campus many times per week. Located on a beautiful campus in one of Canada's most vibrant and dynamic cities, Taylor Seminary is an outstanding choice for theological education in the evangelical tradition (in the broadest and best sense of that term).

Areas of Expertise

Taylor Seminary offers several master's degrees (including our new 77-hour MDiv), four diploma programs, and a number of graduate certificates, all carefully designed to prepare students for a lifetime of effective Christian service. Intercultural Studies and TESOL courses are among our offerings. Courses are offered within a distinctly Christian atmosphere that emphasizes spiritual formation and field education.

There are a limited number of suites available on campus for students, including some with full kitchens. It is expected that students in residence would stay through to the end of the full academic term; 30-days notice is required to move off campus before the end of the semester.

Off Campus Housing

There are a number of apartment buildings within walking or bus distance from Taylor Seminary. You may also consider applying for a Homestay program where you can live with an English speaking family and gain experience with the language and culture. Students who live off-campus are responsible for finding their own accommodations.

Incoming Students

Orientation and a welcoming lunch help new students get to know the faculty, administration and student leadership, and there are numerous events throughout each semester that help foster a sense of community for all students. These include chapel services (bi-weekly), retreats, as well as social events planned by the Taylor Seminary Students Association (canoe trips, film nights, BBQs, etc.).

Career Planning

Taylor has made Field Education a deliberate and careful focus over a number of years, seeking to help our students gain real-world ministry experience in churches and other pastoral care settings (eg., hospitals) as well as guidance from practitioner/mentors and from Spiritual Directors. Our Director of Supervised Ministry advises MDiv students with their long-term placement.

Activities

The Taylor Seminary Students' Association (TSSA) organizes many social, ministry and community-building activities throughout the year - many of them involving great food! There are also numerous other opportunities to learn, serve and have fun with fellow students through Taylor Seminary and its sister organization, the E P Wahl Centre. Many of these events are low-cost or free.

Information Technology

WiFi is provided at no charge to students. Computers and a printer are also provided in a study area for student use.

Affiliated Institutions

Taylor Seminary is affiliated with the NAB Conference (North American Baptists). A partnership relationship exists with the Urban Sanctuary, a spiritual formation ministry located on the campus. Another branch of Taylor is the E P Wahl Centre, which offers non-credit training, education and service opportunities (including the Conservatory of Music).

International Involvement

Taylor Seminary often coordinates a 'Global Study Tour', a missional experience that takes a class to international locations for study and service. Previous classes have traveled to such places as Spain, Zambia and Palestine. Taylor is also active in a partnership with the Cameroon Baptist Theological Seminary, in conjunction with Sioux Falls Seminary in South Dakota.
