Description:

We offer an LLM (general) and an LLM with a specialization in Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law (NREEL). We accept students who have demonstrated strong potential for advanced research and writing in a common law system. You will work with a supervising faculty member to produce a substantial piece of original legal scholarship.

Our internationally-acclaimed law school was included in the LLM Guide's top 10 energy law programs worldwide (2017). The LLM program earns this recognition for strengths in examining the relationship between society and our environment, defining the interests we claim in the world around us, and in shaping the consequences of using those resources. The faculty has an endowed chair in natural resources law and a robust law library. Department resources are complemented by the internationally-renowned Canadian Institute of Resources Law, which hosts symposia and publishes research on natural resources and energy law. The thesis-based program for students passionate about research and writing in a focused area of law, and who may be interested in an academic or research career.

Applicants are required to have an academic degree in law, and a minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study (a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents or 60 units) of the undergraduate degree.
