Some seasonal variation aside, the number of actors and comedians increased slightly over the past few years. These movements were primarily due to the growth in demand in the theatre, television and movie industries, and to government funding. Considering the level of increase forecast in demand in these industries, the number of actors and comedians is expected to continue to increase slightly in the coming years.

Some actors and comedians will leave this occupation for other occupations in the arts, such as administrative positions, or to become producers (NOC 5131), announcers or television or radio hosts (NOC 5231), or managers or directors in the performing arts (NOC 0512). People who have the right training can also access jobs as college instructors (NOC 4131) or university professors (NOC 4121). Note also that multiple employment is frequent within the occupation as well. For example, an actor may also teach drama at an acting school.
