University-managed apartments offer independent cooking facilities in each room; a single or shared study bedroom, together with living and dining room furnishings. University-managed residences (catered or self-catered) are for students who want to live in a community with academic support, pastoral care, and the chance to mix with other residents. Most residences are within walking distance of the campus or a shuttle service is available.

Career Planning

A Careers Service assists students with their career plans and provides them with the skills to carry out their decisions. It has a resource library with information on individual occupations; job seeking skills and organizations that recruit graduates in Australia and overseas; job boards; company employment websites; and resources on voluntary and overseas work placement opportunities.

Sports

Intramural Sports for Female: A variety of sports are available, i.e. netball, basketball, hockey, badminton, swimming, volleyball, water polo, tennis, etc. Intramural Sports for Male: A variety of sports are available, i.e. baseball, cricket Kendo, rugby union, water polo, basketball, hockey, rugby league, soccer, swimming, volleyball, etc. Intercollegiate Sports for Female and Male: UOW actively participates in the annual University Games. The sports include basketball, baseball, AFL, badminton, netball, rugby union, softball, soccer, tennis, squash, ultimate Frisbee, touch, golf, water polo, and volleyball. These include playing fields, all-weather outdoor playing surfaces, a 50-metre heating swimming pool, and tennis courts. The centre has a fully equipped gymnasium, squash courts, basketball courts, and café.

Activities

Activities offered by the Recreation and Aquatic Centre include fitness classes, leisure and outdoor activities, learn-to-swim classes, and a social sports competition.

Clubs

There are 50 clubs and societies on campus, ranging from religious and cultural groups to recreation groups. The UniCentre and Students’ Association manage the many varied clubs for international students.

Information Technology

Student computer resources include eight central student computer laboratories, equipped with 500 desktop computers as well as teaching laboratories. Students can access e-mail, the Internet, software, and laser printers.

Cultural

Clubs for international students include the Chinese Students’ Association; Indian Society; Indonesian Student’s Association; Iranian Association; Malaysian Students’ Association; Thai Students’ Association; and the Vietnamese Students’ Association. In addition, student-based religious clubs include the Buddhist Society; Chinese Christian Fellowship; Indonesian Christian Fellowship; and the Muslims Students’ Association.

The Visiting Research Practicum Program is designed for students from overseas universities who wish to come to UOW to obtain research experience or professional/industrial practice with a UOW research team. This professional practicum is for a limited period (usually between three and six months) and may be a formal requirement.
