Incoming Students

All University services and facilities are available to new students. A special Orientation Week occurs in the first week of semester and is made up of a program of information sessions, tours, and events designed to help new students get to know Monash University and particularly, their campus. The program provides: - An introduction to the services and facilities at Monash University. - Important information about studying at Monash University and living in Australia to help with the transition. - Information about local government services and the local community in general. - The opportunity to make friends with fellow classmates and senior students just before starting studies. - The opportunity to meet staff of Monash International and Monash University.

Career Planning

Monash University Careers and Employment offers a vast range of facilities, programs, and resources to help students find part-time or casual work while they study, and assistance in finding full-time employment after graduation. Sports

Intramural Sports for Male/Female: Badminton, netball, taekwondo, cycling, indoor soccer, indoor cricket, volleyball, tennis, basketball, triathlon, hockey, baseball, martial arts, squash, swimming, table tennis, softball, water polo, kendo, judo, rugby, and jiu-jitsu. Intercollegiate Sports for Male/Female: Athletics, Australian Rules, Badminton, Basketball, Baseball, Cycling, Diving, Kendo, Judo, Hockey, Netball, Rugby Union, Soccer, Squash, Tae Kwon Do, Tennis, Touch Football, Volleyball, and Water Polo. Every aspect of activity associated with Monash University is of high quality. Sport at Monash is no exception. Monash is widely recognized as having some of the finest sporting facilities of any university in Australia. With more than 70 affiliated sports clubs and world class facilities, students can satisfy their desire for competition, improved fitness, better health, and group or individual involvement in the ways that best suit their lifestyle. All students have access to the University’s renowned sporting facilities including swimming pools, tennis courts, gymnasiums, basketball courts, squash courts, martial arts venues, hockey fields, soccer, baseball, and athletics.

Activities

Each campus runs a range of activities and social events throughout the year. Throughout semester, student volunteers organize entertainment such as band nights, lunchtime concerts, BBQs, trivia nights, Comedy Week, nightclub passes, Campus Games, and the infamous Green Week.

Clubs

All Monash students have the opportunity to join any of Monash’s 180 student clubs and associations. These clubs are a vital part of University life and provide an opportunity to meet people with similar interests, make friends, and develop skills.

Information Technology

There are 120 computer laboratories and more than 2,500 workstations at Monash. Monash students can access electronic resources from off campus locations such as work or home. Internet cafe facilities are also available at the Caulfield, Peninsula, and Gippsland campuses. Students are provided with a free e-mail account. Monash offers an extensive range of online resources including: - Lectures online. - Monash University Past Exams Database. - WebCT, an online learning management system, which provides a range of learning tools such as online lecture material, discussion boards, and interactive quizzes.

Cultural

There are a number of student clubs at Monash that reflect the University’s rich cultural diversity. These include the Chinese, European, African, Hong Kong, Indonesian, Latin, Malaysian, Singaporean, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Italian, Indian, Mauritian, and Sri Lankan Student Associations.

Special Services

Monash University is committed to promoting access and equity for students who have a disability or long term medical condition. Services such as IT and library services, note taking, and university rest rooms are provided in order to enable students to fulfil the inherent requirements of their award courses as independently as possible. Other University services available to all students include childcare, health and medical practitioners, counselling, and religious services.

Affiliated Institutions

Monash University has established exchange agreements with 130 universities in 27 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Some partner universities are Simon Fraser University, Bishop’s University, Carleton University, Boston College, Michigan State University, University of California, University of Liverpool, University of Tokyo, University of Bologna, University of Copenhagen, and University of Vienna.

International Involvement

Monash continues to develop international partnerships to support our teaching and learning activities, and to maximize the opportunities for international understanding and experiences for all of our staff and students. Firstly, students can study abroad with a Monash partner university. Or, because Monash is a multicampus institution, if students are enrolled in a course offered at one of our international campuses including Monash University Malaysia and Monash South Africa, they can take advantage of the intercampus exchange program overseas. If students are enrolled at another university, they can apply to spend a semester or two at Monash University, while earning credit towards their degree.
