Profile

Belmont is a public secondary school located in a safe, friendly community just twenty minutes from the centre of Victoria, BC. Our school offers a number of study options for students 14 to 19 years of age. These include short-term, one semester, two semester and longer programs. In addition, we offer a summer language/activity program, which prepares new students for entry into the school system in September. Students have the option of choosing ESL, English 'experience' or regular BC High School courses of study. Students who complete the BC High School Graduation program are able to apply to colleges and universities across Canada for admission. We take great pride in our academic excellence and our reputation as an outstanding place to study. Our school population is 1,700 (70 International students). We offer excellent personal service to our international students. The directors are involved in all aspects of the program from the selection of students and host families to programming and monitoring students in their studies. Because international students make up only 3% of our total school population, we can assure that students will have the opportunity to learn English quickly in a friendly, supportive environment. Because students live with Canadian families, they will adapt quickly to the Canadian way of life.

Areas of Expertise

Belmont has offered an international program for over ten years. During that time, we have hosted students from a wide variety of countries. Our directors are experienced in dealing with all aspects of International education and are particularly knowledgeable about colleges and universities in Canada. Our strengths include flexibility and the ability to offer personal attention to students' needs. Students requiring assistance in a subject area generally seek help from the classroom teacher. Students with identified learning disabilities are able to receive assistance in a Learning Support (LS) block. Students with severe educational handicaps require a program attuned to their current and future needs. The Lifeskills Program provides students with the opportunity to maximize their potential in a productive and supportive environment.
