We specialize in offering English as a Second Language instruction to produce fluency in students who then move into the academic program and work towards a British Columbia high school diploma. Small class sizes ensure individual attention to student needs.

If required, students are provided a home with a Canadian host family. The family provides a safe and comfortable English speaking environment for cultural learning and language skills development. The family shares their home and lives with the student, while offering proper guidance and caring supervision. Students are given their own room and three meals a day.

Incoming Students

When new students arrive at St. John's International School, they are tested to determine their English language ability. They are then placed in the program of study where they would best succeed. Students also receive an orientation of the school before regular classes start.

Sports

All physical education classes for St. John's International School are held at a nearby community centre. Students can participate in a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, skating, etc. St. John's International School offers many extra curricular activities to its students. There are organized camping trips both in the fall and late spring. In February, the students take part in an organized ski trip. During the school year, students can participate in sporting events with other schools. Vancouver's many beaches make sailing and windsurfing readily accessible and the moderate climate allows for year round hiking, tennis, and cycling.

Computer Science classes are offered to students. St. John's International School has 20 computers and Internet access for student use.

Cultural

Students volunteer within the community and participate in activities organized by the student council such as the Multicultural Day during which students celebrate their different nationalities. There are various holiday activities throughout the year, the most popular being the Halloween and Christmas parties.
