We are a unique northern educational and research institution that provides training and diploma programs to the residents of the Northwest Territories and beyond. Our students come from across the Northwest Territories, the Yukon and southern Canada.

Our programs are as varied and unique as the north itself, from trades and apprentice training to diploma programs and university courses, we strive to ensure that your needs are met through our flexible and dynamic programs. Through our work with training partners in business, government and industry, we deliver programs and courses that are designed to fulfill specific employment needs in the northern workforce.

Aurora College features many hands-on and career-building programs ranging from Adult Basic Education to Social Work.

On Campus Housing

Aurora College provides a limited supply of accommodation for both single students and for those with families. You should apply for accommodation when you apply for college. Full-time students registered in long-term programs have first priority for family accommodation. Housing will be assigned once you are registered for full-time study. For availability and accommodation rate information, contact the Student Services Department at the Campus or Community Learning Centre to which you are applying.

Incoming Students

The Student Services Department provides orientation to college life.

Career Planning

Some of the many services provided by the Student Services Department include career and personal counselling, employment counselling, financial information, personal development and referral.

Sports

At Aurora Campus in Inuvik, the campus gymnasium, the largest in the Northwest Territories, provides a first-rate recreational facility for both the campus and the community. Aurora Campus also has a well-equipped weight room. The recreation program has a wide range of athletic and leisure equipment on hand that is available for your use.

Activities

Activities available at the Student Activity Centre (SAC) are: pool tables (Snooker, 8-ball and Billiards), table tennis, air hockey, shuffleboard, foosball, darts and video games (Nintendo© 64 and Sony© Playstation). Cards and tabletop games are also available. A big screen TV is available to watch in the leisure area.

Information Technology

Computer labs can be found at each campus location for student access, as well as for the provision of taking continuing education courses by the community. The Aurora campus houses 30 computers in two labs, the Thebacha campus has 55 computers in three labs, and the Yellowknife campus has 3 computer labs.

Special Services

Counselling services are provided at each campus to assist you in developing abilities and realizing your full potential. Through counselling, you may be assisted in developing sound decision-making skills, accepting responsibility for your choices, and implementing decisions by taking realistic courses of action. Counselling services are provided free to students and confidentially is ensured.
