The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research Inc. (GDI) was formally incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1980, to serve the educational and cultural needs of the Saskatchewan Métis and Non-Status Indian community. The Institute is designated as the official educational arm of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S). GDI offers a variety of accredited educational, vocational and skills training opportunities for the province's Métis in partnership with the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology, the province's various regional colleges and the Métis Employment and Training of Saskatchewan Inc.

Areas of Expertise

All programs offered by the Gabriel Dumont Institute, the Dumont Technical Institute and Gabriel Dumont College are designed with a number of special features. For example, programs are community based and most offer a preparatory phase of training or run concurrent update courses with regular programming when the course begins. All courses offer Métis Studies programming and are sensitive to Métis culture. The school prides itself on comprehensive academic and personal counseling support to students. All training and professional education is fully accredited and recognized, with instruction and programming being of the highest quality.

Off Campus Housing

Please contact the various housing groups for more information on available subsidized housing. These groups are: Prince Albert Housing Authority, Prince Albert Community Housing Society Inc. and Northern Spruce Housing Corp. There is also Sasknative Rentals, which rents to families of Aboriginal ancestry. Units consist of unfurnished bungalows, duplexes and apartment blocks situated throughout the city, each with fridge and stove. Rent is calculated according to family income (other than Social Services assistance). The Saskatoon Housing Authority manages government subsidized housing for families with dependent children. Rent is calculated according to 25% of your monthly income. Units are unfurnished, but fridge and stove are provided.

Incoming Students

The school provides a range of services for incoming students. Students have the opportunity to access counselling and health services within the area of the campus.

Clubs

The SRC initiates social functions, fundraising and looks after the finances of the SRC. Further organizations include the University of Saskatchewan Students Union and University of Regina Students Union. For further information about these unions, please contact them at their websites.

SUNTEP Student Representative Council (SRC) promotes cultural and professional development for SUNTEP students.

Special Services

Students with children have access to daycare services.
