Requirements for Canadian Students

Students must be 15 years old and have completed Grade 9.

Requirements for International Students

Students must be 15 years old and have completed Grade 9 or equivalent. Students are assessed in Math and English, and placed in the appropriate level to meet their needs. Acceptance is based on the most recent three years of school records and information in the student profile.

Procedure for Canadian Students

Canadian students must have completed Grade 9 in order to begin studies at MHS. Students with a C+ (67%) or higher average from their previous year of study will be eligible for a scholarship, which reduces tuition fees by 25%.

Notes:The academic year at Malaspina High School consists of four quarters from the beginning of September to the end of June of the following year. Students may enrol in optional academic courses combined with an activity program during July and August. In each quarter, students study only two courses over a period of ten weeks. After successful completion of final exams, students study a further two courses in each subsequent quarter throughout the year. For highly motivated students, the opportunity exists to complete high school graduation requirements in less than two years. There is also the opportunity for gifted students to take first year university courses at Vancouver Island University.
