Description:Sociology is the systematic study of social relations around class and economics, race, gender, sexuality; of human groups and social interaction and of social institutions such as the family, law, politics, multiculturalism, education, media, and religion. This dynamic and diverse major offers a wide range of relevant courses, while providing an excellent foundation for a large number of interesting career options. Sociology graduates are uniquely prepared to think critically and communicate effectively; characteristics that make them highly desirable. There are many opportunities for undergraduate scholarships and awards, including the Perrier Family Scholarship and scholarships to assist with Study Abroad programs.

The honours program is a selective program to which students may either apply or be invited to apply for admission. Successful completion assists students in applications to both graduate and professional schools.

Students entering directly from high school are required to have completed five academic Grade 12 subjects, including English, with an average grade of 70% and no grade below 60%.

  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 60] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or CanTEST [min. 4.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80]

If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate that you have the English language skills necessary to be successful in Saint Mary’s University degree programs.
