Description:

This major is part of the Bachelor of Design (BDes), it explores textile design in depth, and will push your creative ability in the design of textiles for a variety of industries; from fashion to product and interior design. As you develop your theoretical and practical skills, you will become part of a new generation of innovative local designers.

Textile design students have full access to leading-technology and expert assistance from highly-qualified technicians at the Textile + Design Lab (TDL). The TDL is a research centre in textiles and apparel, and experimentation in the area of design is highly encouraged. It is also the only facility in New Zealand that houses design, knitwear and digital printing technology to meet the purposes of design, product development, sampling and research. TDL has excellent resources including computer-aided design systems, digital fabric and garment printing, electronic intarsia and WholeGarment® knitting technology.
