Description:

The Nutrition and Food Service Management Program provides educational opportunities for individuals who wish to pursue a career in food service management and attain membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM). The focus of this accredited diploma program is on the health care sector. Langara graduates are in demand both in BC and across Canada.



The curriculum incorporates core food service courses in food service management, operations and nutrition combined with academic studies in related disciplines. Students apply the concepts of food service management through a variety of practicum and fieldwork experiences. The program can be completed entirely online on a full-time or part-time basis. Applicants with related experience may qualify for Prior Learning, Flexible Assessment, and Recognition (PLFAR) in some first year courses. Applicants with a Bachelor degree may be eligible for advanced standing and admission to second year.

    Applicants are required to have completed BC Grade 12 or equivalent, or be 19 years of age or older. Applicants holding a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science or higher-level degree from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution may receive up to 30 transfer credits toward completion of the program.

    Applicants are required to submit two letters of reference attesting to the abilities that would be an asset in a career in food service management, one of which must be from an employer. Applicants are also required to submit a resumé and a letter of intent (maximum 2 pages) that explains why they wish to enter the program and that demonstrates he/she has an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Nutrition Manager in a health care setting. Finally, a valid FoodSafe Level 1(Basic) or equivalent that has been completed in the last five years must be submitted. Please visit the website for complete program requirements.
