Welcome to Langara College's Early Childhood Education Diploma Program, where we believe quality child care nurtures early learning. This stimulating program balances academic studies on campus and practical experiences in licensed childcare centres. Students develop a strong theoretical foundation for working with children and families and take on increasing responsibility in their practical work. Upon completion of the program they are prepared and able to confidently and competently enter the profession of early childhood education.
The Early Childhood Education Diploma Program prepares students beginning careers as Early Childhood Educators in a variety of childcare settings (primarily within the province of British Columbia). Langara College also offers an Early Childhood Education: Special Education Post Basic Citation, which is part time and in the evenings. This special needs educator credential program is suited for Early Childhood Educators already holding a diploma or certificate. |

Applicants are required to have completed BC Grade 12 or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Applicants must also satisfy the category 2 English Language Requirement.

Applicants are required to submit at least two letters of reference, one of which indicates successful recent experience in the care of children under six years, particularly with groups of preschool-aged children. The second letter may be a personal reference. Baby-sitting experience alone is not adequate. Experience means a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer or paid work in a licensed child care centre with children six years and under. A current First Aid Certification and Criminal Records Review are also required along with the viewing of a presentation on the ECE website.
