Description:

Humber's Electrical Engineering Technology – Control Systems advanced diploma program has been developed in close collaboration with an industry advisory panel to ensure a comprehensive learning experience encompassing fundamental concepts and the latest technologies in the field. This program seamlessly integrates classroom theory with practical laboratory work covering electric devices, circuits, digital fundamentals, power generation and distribution, electrical computer-aided design (CAD), electrical codes, electrical machines and their control, as well as programming PLCs and industrial communications.

In the third year of the program, students explore advanced skills that focus on designing, operating and maintaining electrical equipment and instruments within automated manufacturing, environmental and power systems, with a specific emphasis on renewable energy integration and smart grid design. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on key areas such as programming software, feedback control systems, motor control, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), power electronics, as well as renewable energy sources and their integration into power generation. Additionally, the program delves into topics related to power transmission, distribution and overall power system design. The focus extends to human-machine interface (HMI) technologies and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, ensuring students acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills relevant to the evolving landscape of modern electrical engineering, including sustainable energy practices and smart grid advancements.
