Speech-language pathologists are concerned with the assessment and treatment of a broad range of speech, language, voice, swallowing, and cognitive-communication impairments. Such impairments may result from structural or functional causes, and may have developed over time or have resulted from things like stroke, head injury or cancers of the head and neck.
Western's Speech-Language Pathology program is an international leader in the field and has played important roles in the development of innovative language, speech, swallowing and voice therapies. Students in the program benefit from small group laboratory experiences and teaching clinics, low student-to-faculty ratios, and access to state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders is home to Canada's largest on-site speech and hearing clinic, the H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic. |

To be considered for admission students must have successfully completed the following six prerequisite half-courses:

2. Introduction to Linguistics
3. Statistics
4. Human Anatomy, Human Physiology
5. Life/Biomedical/General Sciences
6. Social Science/Psychology/Linguistics

| Application Notes : | In order to be considered for admission to the MClSc program in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), prospective students must meet the minimum requirements:
A four-year degree from an accredited university;
Possess a minimum "B" average in the 10 full university courses most recently completed;
Applicants whose first language is not English require a minimum TOEFL score of 105 on the internet-based version or an overall score of 8 on the IELTS;
Complete a minimum of 14 hours of clinical volunteer experience working with a registered speech-language pathologist and provide a completed Clinical Reference Form (Included in the ORPAS Application);
Provide at least two letters of academic reference (Applicants who have not taken courses at the university level for more than five years may provide professional letters of reference);
Complete a "Statement of Intent" that is part of the ORPAS online application. |
