CapU's School of Legal Studies is the only university in Western Canada to offer a degree program for paralegals and graduates of the program are in high demand across the legal profession.

You'll take core legal studies courses together with general and legal electives. Whether your ultimate goal is to build a valuable and rewarding career as a paralegal, to become a lawyer, to work in other law-related professions, or to do graduate work, this program is your best option.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

    • High school graduation or equivalent education or experience
    • High school with an 80% average through Grades 11 and 12 (in English Studies 12 or English 12 or English First Peoples 12 and at least four other Grade 11 or 12 academic courses)
    Application Notes : English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. If English is not your first language or you've received your education in a language other than English, you must meet our English Language Requirements.

    • Essay - (three pages, double-spaced) entitled, "Why I Want to Become a Paralegal"
    • Letters of reference - preferably from high school teachers and/or non-family members who work in a business or professional setting
    • The School of Legal Studies will review applications once the application package is complete
    • The applicant may be called for an interview if they meet the admission requirements

    Current Grade 12 students can be conditionally accepted based on final Grade 11 grades or interim Grade 12 grades. Students can upload proof of grades (e.g. unofficial transcripts, copies of report cards) through EducationPlannerBC when applying to Capilano University. Final acceptance will be based on high school graduation and having met the program specific requirements.

    Note: All B.C. applicants must release their grades to CapU via the BC Ministry of Education at Student Transcripts Services (STS). Please do this as soon as possible.
