Description:

This is a common entry route to all the four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree programmes at UCD. Biosystems Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Bioprocess Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. If you would like to study Engineering, but are not sure about which branch of Engineering you would find the most interesting, this maybe the solution. It allows you to explore the world of engineering for a year before you have to choose one of the five options above. During your first semester, you will follow a common curriculum and also learn about the different branches of Engineering. For your second semester, you will have to make some module choices.

It is possible to keep all the options open, but many students opt to narrow the range at this point and focus on their areas of interest. Please note that this entry route does not permit access to the BSc programmes in Structural Engineering with Architecture (DN078) or Engineering Science (DN080).

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
The following courses are required as prerequisites for domestic applicants: Irish, English, Mathematics (Minimum Grade C3 LC Higher Level), one laboratory science subject (Chemistry and/or Physics is recommended, with Minimum Grade D3 LC Higher Level), and two other recognised subjects.

Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma: The minimum for consideration is minimum score of C in six subjects, which includes a minimum of B in two subjects, with English and specific programme requirements.
