Description:

The purpose of Workplace Training is to provide occupational work-site training opportunities that enable Albertans to obtain the necessary occupation-related skills to develop into a valuable employee within your business. Through this program, 3A Clients become employees while the program pays prospective employers for providing applicable on-the-job training to the client. The Workplace Training Program Provides the Following Benefits to Job Seekers and Employers: it helps Albertans who may have the right skills but need extra job experience; helps those who need to learn basic job skills while in a work setting; links unemployed Albertans directly with employers; and encourages employers to train and hire unemployed people. Workplace training is appropriate for individuals experiencing barriers to obtaining and maintaining employment. Those barriers may include a lack of essential skills, work exposure, or occupation-related skills.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Participants must be unemployed, residing in Alberta, legally entitled to work in Canada, and either insured Employment Insurance participants who have established an active claim, or established and ended their benefit period within the previous 36 months, or were paid maternity (parental) benefits in the previous 60 months and are now returning to work or eligible for provincial welfare benefits or unemployed (not working or only working sporadically to supplement the family income) and not EI or SFI eligible. Participants must also: be ready, willing, and able to benefit from Workplace Training, have been experiencing difficulty in obtaining work because they need more job specific training or retraining and additional experience to achieve viable employment, have sufficient literacy and numerical skills to benefit from training (not less than Grade 9 level) and have sufficient health to participate in and benefit from training.
