Description:

Grade 9 Mathematics
(One class compulsory)

Math 9
This course builds on math concepts from grade eight, covering one and a half semesters, sharing one semester time slot with health. This course will give a foundation in the understanding of problem solving, rational numbers, geometry/measurement, data analysis, and beginning algebra.

Division IV Math

*In order to graduate, a student is required to complete a math at both the 10 and 20 level.
Students planning to take all 30 level math courses are advised to take Math 20 in their grade 10 year.

Math 10 *
Prerequisite: Math 9
This course has algebra and geometry, covering basic concepts of linear equations and inequalities; relations of linear functions; variations; consumer math; lines, angles, and polygons; and a review of algebraic skills.

Math 11 *
Prerequisite: Math 9
This course is for students who have had difficulty with Math 9 or 10. The course covers at least 50% of Math 10 plus an added portion of locally developed curriculum. Some of the concepts in Math 10 will not be followed to the same depth but will include more consumer and business mathematics.

Honours Math 10 *
A mark of 80% in Math 9 is recommended, or teacher permission.
Honours Math 10 covers everything in Math 10 as well as enriched topics.

Grade 11 Mathematics

Math 20 *
Prerequisite: Math 10
This algebra and geometry course covers irrational roots, consumer mathematics, polynomials and rational expressions, quadratic functions, quadratic equations, probability, angles, and polygons and circles.

Honours Math 20 *
A mark of 75% in Honours Math 10 is recommended, or teacher permission.
This course covers all of Math 20 as well as enriched topics.

Math 21 *
Prerequisite: Math 11 or Math 10
This course contains some of the concepts from Math 20, but will have the majority of its contents dealing with consumer and business mathematics.

Math A30
Prerequisite: Math 20
This course covers permutations, combinations, data analysis, polynomials and rational expression, exponents and radicals, relations and functions, Systems of linear equations, angles, and polygons.

Math B30
Prerequisite: Math A30
This course covers probability, data analysis, matrices, complex numbers, quadratic equations, polynomial and rational functions, and exponential and logarithmic functions.

Math C30
Prerequisite: Math B30, (may be taken concurrently with Math B30)
This course covers mathematical proof, conic sections, circular functions, applications of trigonometry, trigonometric identities, and trigonometric equations.

Honours Math A30
A mark of 75% in Honours Math 20 is recommended, or teacher permission.
This course covers the same topics as Math A30, there is more depth in the study of some of the concepts plus an introduction and discussion of topics in pre-calculus.

Honours Math B30
Prerequisite: Honours Math A30
A mark of 75% in Honours Math A 30 is recommended, or teacher permission.
This course covers the same concepts as Math B30 in more detail. Math B30 also introduces some topics in pre-calculus.

Honours Math C30
Prerequisite: Honours Math B30
A mark of 75% in Honours Math B30 is recommended, or teacher permission.
The course covers the same topics as Math C30 with some of the concepts in more depth; it also has some topics in pre-calculus.

Calculus 30
Prerequisite: Math C30, may be taken concurrently with Calculus 30.
This course includes the study of limits, differentiation, integration, maxima and minima, area, and related rates.

Honours Calculus 30
Prerequisite: Math C30
A mark of 75% in Honours Math C30 is recommended, or teacher permission.
This course includes topics in Calculus 30 but covers them in greater depth and scope.
