Description:Humber’s Child and Youth Care (CYC) advanced diploma program teaches you to engage with children, youth (2 to 21 years old) and families in their everyday lives to promote optimal development and facilitate positive changes by using the principles of relational practice.

This program features courses that provide foundational knowledge in childhood, adolescent and family development; group dynamics; CYC interventions; and therapeutic activities. Other courses delve into professional ethics and advocacy, the unique role of the child and youth care practitioner, counselling techniques, effective work with families, the impact of trauma and how to build resiliency. You will learn that an essential component of professional practice is self-awareness, therefore, many courses emphasize self-reflection and the classroom is considered a professional practice environment. Your high energy level and emotional maturity will help you meet the demands of working with children and youth with complex needs. Our program is delivered by award-winning faculty, renowned in their field, with current relevant experience and advanced degrees. The program embraces the approach of learning by doing. Additional Admission Requirements:
    Students must also supply: • Valid Heartsaver AED (C), CPR (C) and Standard First Aid certificates. Documentation will be requested during your program of study, every semester prior to the assignment of student internships • Medical Certificate of Health including immunization against Hepatitis B (prior to field placement component of program) • Police Record Check: Students in programs or occupations involving direct contact with vulnerable persons are required to undergo a Police Record Check. Refer to the Admission Information section in this publication. Humber reserves the right to deny admission to this program based on an unpardoned criminal record that would be relevant to the academic or placement requirements of the program. The Police Record Check may have to be renewed every three to six months. A Police Record Check will be requested during your program of study. In respect of the 90-day limit on validity of record checks and the types of checks required by the various agencies, please do not attain a police check prior to being accepted to the program. Faculty will support students upon arrival to the program to ensure they apply for the correct type of police documentation.
