Within easy access to a wide range of natural environments, Bangor is an ideal place to study wildlife ecology and conservation. From the North Wales coastline, near shellfish beds, and sites where dolphins congregate and seals haul out, to the varied landscape of Eryri National Park with its long history of multiple agricultural land uses, mining, and quarrying.
We also take full advantage of our excellent facilities. With 82 hectares of woodlands, semi-natural grasslands, and farmland, our 252-hectare Henfaes Research Centre is a DEFRA study farm, part of the Global Farm Platform. Meanwhile, the grassland and woodland habitats at Treborth support many native animals and over 2,000 recorded plant species. Additionally, it houses Europe’s largest ground soil and plant root laboratory, as well as breeding programs for several threatened endemic Welsh plant species.
